Emergency Roof Repair Tips for Winter

Emergency Roof Repair during winter weather can be harsh on your roof and sometimes there’s no way of knowing when your roofing will sustain some damage. In this post, metal roofing expert Shelter Construction Services shares tips on how you can handle emergency roof repairs during the winter season.

Emergency Roof Repair during the winter

Look Out for Common Roofing Problems in Winter

Certain types of damage tend to be more common during the colder months. During Emergency Roof Repair knowing what these are can help make it easier to spot such damage and address the issue before it’s too late.

1. Ice damage – These are often caused by the freeze/thaw cycle and they’re more common in gutters that aren’t correctly installed.

2. Shingle damage – Shingles may break off or get blown away, leaving the layers underneath exposed to the harsh winter weather.

3. Punctures – High winds may cause trees and other debris to fall on your roof and this may create punctures, holes, or leaks.

Ensure Your Safety

If you notice any damage to your roof, don’t attempt to inspect it by yourself. It’s best to leave this job to a roofing contractor especially since the weather poses challenges to carrying out a safe roof inspection.

Restrict Power Supply

Turn off the power supply in the affected areas in your home. Leaks, for instance, can cause moisture to come into contact with electrical outlets. This can lead to certain hazards in your home.  Water is attracted to electricity.  Be sure to limit any exposure of water and electricity.

Call a Professional Roofer

Emergency Roof Repair  you should contact roofers and have them perform the necessary repairs. Apart from having the proper equipment and safety gear, they have the skills and knowledge to perform the task safely and properly.
